Perhaps the most spectacular of all water plants are water lilies and lotuses. Their flat round leaves remind me of little rafts that float easily on the water. Their intelligently designed stems have tiny air spaces that act like inflated air vests holding them up. And their waxy flowers come in the most lovely range of colors: shades of pink, yellow, white, lavender, and green. They lie gracefully on the water's surface, opening their petals in the morning and closing them at night. I affectionately call them the "zen masters" of the flowering plant world.
When I pass one, I can't resist snapping a photo. Even looking at my photographs of these beauties brings a sense of balance, calm & peace to me.
